Who I am
I’m a leader, an entrepreneur, mentor, motivator, speaker, writer, coach, teacher and business strategist with more than 40 years of experience and positive results. I am passionate about people of high character who are passionate about their dreams of helping others with better ways to empower others. I believe deeply that our role in live is to serve others through the skills and talents that we have been given. I want to help others fulfill their own purpose through the sharing of the wonderful knowledge and experience so many others have freely given to me as their own act of service to others from a grateful heart.
My Personal Journey
In my youth I was extremely curious about everything and just as easily bored with everything. That hunger for knowledge was often unfocused and wandering in my youth and continued into adulthood. And in the course of my wanderings I frequently stepped into “fox holes” and learned far too much of what I know “the hard way”. Certainly not something I’m proud of but the struggles have given me a great sense of gratitude and respect for life’s challenges that has made me much stronger than I would have been without them. I have survived and overcome challenges that often crush others and have learned that success is frequently the result of being tested by fire. We never fail as long as we don’t quit.
A Life Changing Experience
In my late 20’s I was given an opportunity to step into a business that was failing and didn’t have much of a future. Its owners were passive investors and had more or less “thrown in the towel”. As a result, and probably a last resort, a partner and I were given the chance to see what we could do with it. And that is what we did. We both believed in our own passion and drive and saw an opportunity to turn the business into a successful venture. And that’s exactly what we did. Much of it by accepting the facts as they were, good and bad and then making the simple adjustments necessary to turn the business around. I eventually left the business and went on to other challenges and many years later it was acquired by a national company and merged into their business. Our approach was common sense, simple and necessary changes and adjustments where needed. Above all else it was the principle of service that we built its success on.
A few years later I had a similar opportunity with a national company and produced the same positive results. And there were other startups as well along the way and another turnaround in the early 2000’s, with the same positive results. In each instance of my business career I grew in knowledge and skills and came to realize that I wasn’t necessarily creative or innovative but I had the gift of seeing things others didn’t and being able to build on them and turn them into success.
In hindsight I didn’t always realize how many talented and generous people played critical roles in the development of my business life and did so willingly without expectation of reward. In many instances I was able to acknowledge and thank them for the role they played in my development as a leader and businessmen.
Where I Am Today
A few years ago after 15 years in a very tough industry that had become a commodity in the eyes of its market I knew it was time to make a change. After a bit of soul searching, I knew that I had one more thing to achieve in my business life. With the help of a couple of good business associates and friends I very soon came to the realization that there was “still an unfulfilled passion that remained unfulfilled” and I knew exactly what it was. That passion was to help others grow and succeed in their own businesses through sharing the knowledge and wisdom I had acquired over many years and to share in a way that was unique to me and in the style I had developed over the years. Direct, clean, clear and powerful principles, techniques and solutions that anyone with just a little effort could master sufficiently to put their own dreams and hopes into practice in their careers and businesses as the case might be. Real life solutions to Real Life challenges delivered to those looking to grow and excel in ways that they could master and apply. I started a management consulting business in 2012 and focused on the most critical and difficult part of any business, leadership. An effective leader doesn’t have to be great at what they do but they have to be competent in certain foundation skills that I believed I had the skills and wisdom to teach and serve them.
I provide other traditional services in my business personally and sometime with others but my personal love and passion is developing and refine leaders so that they can achieve their own goals and objectives in their business lives and careers. When I’m given that opportunity and I see the lights come on and the changes and excitement from what I share with them, I experience gratitude like no other I know and believe that my life has found purpose. It’s my way of paying forward what was so willingly given to me in my youthful wanderings. Passing along what was so freely given to me by so many wonderful friends, associates and mentors, once I became willing to face reality and listen to those who wanted to help me! I wake up each day with a passion and energy knowing that as long as there are people to help my life will continue to be more rewarding than I ever imagined when I was young and searching for what I wanted to be and do when I grew up! And I think the best is yet to come!
Thanks to all the wonderful people in my life-past, present and future!
